I like spheres
Because of their geometry, spheres are incredibly strong. Also, that geometry has advantages in audio design. The lack of flat surfaces and corners eliminates standing waves, and other undesirable effects sometimes attributed to box shapes. This results in clearer sound and spacious soundscapes.
Also, they make pretty cool lamps and other things!
Audio is an important part of my life and started 53 years ago when I built my first “bedroom” amplifier. Pottery started about 20 years ago. I’ve been finding ways to incorporate stoneware into my electronics and music passion. This is one of those kitchen table, notepad schemes that accomplished that and makes me happy.
Here are a few facts regarding the electronic foundation of this great sounding little speaker.
- Built-in Bluetooth 5.3 module combined with a 1st generation IPEX antenna connector for improved signal reception. An extra wired internal antenna has been added to improve signal range. Compared with standard onboard antennas, this design helps reduce interference and provides more reliable connectivity.
- Powered by the widely used TPA3116 amplifier chip, this amplifier delivers clear and stable mono audio output with low distortion. When paired with the included 24V, 6A power supply, its 35 watts of power (peak into 8 ohms) is plenty for the high quality, but inefficient 3 inch diameter driver producing surprisingly great sound performance.
- High quality home audio 3" diameter wide-range drivers are chosen for this speaker to make it not just cool looking, but equally great sounding. I've found through trial and error that low-mass, rigid, nimble cones make the best sound in this application... and they hold up well at high volumes (>90dB at 3 ft).
Simple Operation:
- Press the volume knob for approximately 3 seconds to turn on-off.
- The led will flash rapidly prior to connecting to a music source. When connected, it will remain lit. When playing music, the led will flash slowly.
Obviously, it isn’t portable for two reasons: Stoneware is fragile, and this amplifier requires more power than a reasonably sized battery could supply.
The included power supply is the maximum voltage that this amplifier can safely handle. It could be upgraded to a 10 amp unit, but I don’t think the added expense would yield real world (off the test bench) improvements.

I appreciate your leap of faith buying this little contraption and I’m not concerned about warranties, etc. If you break it, I’ll try to make it good again in a painless manner. Just don't use the port as a thumb hole and bowl with it!
